I had an outstanding council tax bill of £156.13 which came about because I moved and wasn't able to get the post (December 2017). In April 2017 I get a letter from Newlyn saying that I no owed £231.31 with their fees. Fair enough nothing I could do about it.

I tried to make a payment arrangement with them but despite them having standing order details on their letter, the Newlyn agent demanded that I make full payment the same day. Having just moved into a new flat I tried to explain I could not pay the bill until I got paid the end of April, but he was relentless.

In the end I gave up and went and borrowed as much as I could from friends and family. I came up with £200 and paid them immediately, that was 12th April. Today I get home from work (24th April) to find a “Final Notice of Removal” on my door where they have added a further £230 to the outstanding balance of £31.13.

When I called them they said the £31.13 should have been by 18th April, an agreement I never made with them, that they can't talk to me because it's been passed on and gave me a mobile no to call.

I know I'm not the only one going through this, but as someone just recovering from breast cancer the stress of the whole situation is just too much. I just feel like I'm being extorted!

Reason of review: Problems with payment.

Newlyn Cons: Rude agents, Unreasonable attitude.
